Manners and kindness

Can English songs support good manners?

A story can open a conversation, but adults model the behaviour. After a greeting song, welcome someone warmly and practise a useful phrase in a real exchange.

How do we practise please?

Offer a choice of books and model A book, please. Respond kindly to attempts; the phrase is a communication tool, not a condition for basic care.

How do we practise thank you?

Thank somebody for a specific helpful action, then invite your learner to try. Connect the words with noticing another person rather than demanding a memorised response.

How can we teach taking turns?

Use Clap Your Hands! as a two-person game: one person leads, the other follows. Swap after a short round and model Your turn and My turn.

How do we welcome somebody new?

Borrow the story’s greeting and introduce a toy: Hello, I’m… Leave room for a wave or a name. Friendship does not require an immediate spoken answer.
