BILLY’S HOUSE · PARENT FIELD GUIDE

Listening and conversation

It can be part of the day, but shared attention gives words a purpose. Pause Let’s Move! and demonstrate one action before asking your learner to try.

Listening and conversation

What if my child does not sing?

Pointing, watching or moving can still show participation. Join in yourself and leave room for a response without turning the song into a performance.

How do we practise pronunciation?

Listen to one short original line, speak it at a comfortable pace and try again together. Focus on understandable communication rather than copying a particular accent perfectly.

How can a shy learner join in?

Let a puppet speak first or offer a choice between two actions. Accept a gesture and give time; a quieter response is not a reason to increase pressure.

Do subtitles help beginners?

Use the original lyrics to prepare yourself and point to a repeated word when useful. Beginners do not need to read every line while following a new action.

Should we translate every word?

Explain the key idea, then return to the action or story. Translating each line can interrupt the shared experience; meaning can also come from gestures and context.

How can we listen more actively?

Choose one word to notice before pressing play. When it appears, wave or point, then use it once without the recording. Keep the task small and friendly.
